The Trials of Fleur de Mimosa

Updated: Oct 17, 2019

I wanted to create a Mimosa centric fragrance with the beautiful Mimosa absolute I spoke about in my last post.

She is not a single flower Soliflor, but the dappled marriage of light and shadow, of green with warm sunshine floral, on a soft, cushiony base. And with that intent, Fleur de Mimosa (Mimosa Blossom) is tentatively born.

The first iteration (for there will be many), opens with the bright leafy green Galbanum... notoriously difficult to work with - one drop can overpower a blend, so less is more with this one. I'm not sure I will leave it in actually... time and much testing will have to tell here.

Next comes sparkling Lemon, bolstered with the beautiful spicy and resinous Elemi.

The middle is built around our powdery, delicate Mimosa flowers, through which are woven tendrils of sweet Rosewood and warm, piquant Ginger.

All of this is nestled on a soft base of woody and rosy Guaiacwood, with delicious gourmand notes of dark Cocoa bean and Vanilla.

While testing and tweaking the fragrance, I'm trying different bottles and labelling ideas. My perfumes, at least for the next while, will be short-run small-batch creations, giving me the ability to truly customise each bottle and label somewhat. I like that idea. :)
